Canon Europe has announced the launch of two new A4 colour network scanners, ScanFront 220 and ScanFront 220P. The two devices support Canon’s commitment to the office workgroup sector with its innovative scanners. The network scanners connect directly to a company’s network, without the need for additional hardware or applications. Aimed at workgroups within the corporate and SME office environments, the ultra compact scanners enable office employees to transfer scanned, digital data straight onto a company’s network. ScanFront 220, Canon’s standard offering and ScanFront 220P, its professional offering, have speeds of up to 24 pages per minute (ppm) and 48 images per minute (ipm).

ScanFront scanners allows users to scan and send images directly to personal and shared folders, FTP sites, USB devices and to email. Furthermore, all functions can be implemented simultaneously. Through the devices’ scan to email function, users can access their personal address book, a group address book and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), permitting employees to directly access a global address book - tasks that rapidly increase productivity within organisations. The Canon ScanFront 220 has an intuitive design for easy operation and allows users to complete tasks in a few easy steps. The devices both feature an 8.4” TFT display with a touch panel interface, where users can clearly view scanned images, rotate and tailor them on the screen before sending them.

Canon ScanFront possesses superior document imaging capabilities to simplify scanning tasks. The sheet-fed scanners, which also support business card scanning, can scan a batch of mix-sized documents and come with features, including Auto Size Detection, Deskew and Skip Blank Page to facilitate the scanning of mixed-batch jobs. In addition, ScanFront 220P comes with Ultra Sonic Double Feed Detection and an inbuilt fingerprint-authentification feature.

Alongside ease of use, and increased productivity, ScanFront network scanners offer a range of security features. Each user has a log-in and password to access the scanner. Furthermore, the devices, designed for easy administration and configuration, permit IT Managers and Systems Administrators to apply different levels of access to those using them. Another security benefit for IT Managers and Systems administrators is that they can remotely register individual users to the machine, meaning they can securely manage an entire fleet of ScanFronts. Canon’s introduction of these network scanners meets the growing demand for document scanning devices in the workgroup segment, within corporates and SMEs. In the Document Scanner market, which is expected to grow by 8.5% from 2007 to 2011, the Workgroup category has become the largest category, with an expected growth of 9% from 2007 to 2011.
