IFA Report
The Canon PowerShot A2100 IS digital camera has the same measure-ments and weight as its predecessor. A handy format to carry with you at all times, also thanks to its reasonable weight, even though it is not ultra-light. The plastic material of the housing feels rough, and that is why the camera still feels safe in your hand despite the lack of a real handgrip. The design of the Canon camera is quite traditional with straight lines and softly curved corners. Several generations ago, the A-series still contained an actual handgrip, which made its appearance less compact. As for hand-fit, I prefer the older generation, which is by no means intended to diminish the A2100IS; it is just that the older design provided that little extra stability.
Canon PowerShot review : A2100 IS
Because of its predecessor, the A2000IS, the fate of the Canon PowerShot A2100IS's had already been sealed: it would no longer provide the A/S mode (Aperture/Shutter priority) for the creative hobby photographer. An enhanced automation took its place, which is perhaps more suitable for the target group the PowerShot A-series aims at. The Canon PowerShot A2100 IS camera went one step higher up the Megapixel ladder, now featuring a 12 Megapixel CCD image sensor.

The zoom lens has remained the same when it comes to focal length, and provides a 6x focal range which is the equivalent of 36-216 mm on a 35mm camera. Canon did not find any reason to change the appearance of the A2100 IS compared to that of its predecessor. Perhaps the only exception being the silver line that is placed vertically on the front along the handgrip. For now, the Canon PowerShot A2100 IS seems to be an updated version of its predecessor.
